Informatics Guest Speaker This journal entry assignment is based on questions that were geared toward nursing informatics and how they pertained to our guest speaker Vicki Brantly, along with my own impression about the information discussed in class and from interactions with others on the subject. Ms. Brantly has been a nurse for 20 years and currently works in a dialysis clinic. She is the administrator for the clinic, along with twelve other outlying clinics throughout New Mexico. The questions and responses that Ms. Brantly’s provided during her visit to class are listed. 1 How does your use of the EMR affect your client care? Currently her facility only does part EMR and the rest is done via paper charting. The company she works for is in the process of setting up a full electronic system but, notes the it is taking a bit longer because they use several different types of machines and the programs need to be built specifically so that the computer and all the dialysis machines can work together. 2 In your experience, does BCMA improve client safety? Bar code medication administration system is not currently in use at her clinics, do to the fact they do not have a Pyxis or similar type of machine and that their formula of medications in which they can give it limited.
